Reality Capture VS Agisoft Metashape – Welcome to Comparison

If you do photogrammetry, you will come across a lot of software. This time, we will have time to compare Reality Capture from Capturing Reality and Metashape from Agisoft.

We will compare Reality Capture and Agisoft Metashape with the process of making
the project “Peace and Girls” mentioned several times earlier.

2. Align Procedure,Time

Launch Reality Capture -> WORKFLOW-Inputs -> Select all images to align -> ALIGNMENT-Align images Time taken for alignment image 37.388 seconds

Agisoft Metashape
Launch Agisoft Metashape  -> Workflow-Add Photos -> Select all images to align -> Workflow-Align Photos ->OK

Time taken for align photos 291.577 seconds

3. Normal detail VS Build mesh Procedure,Time

RECONSTRUCTION -> Click Normal Detail ! Time taken for normal detail 934.186 seconds

Workflow -> Click Build Mesh ! Source data: Depths maps , Quality : High , Face count : Medium

4. Simplify VS Decimate Mesh Procedure,Time

Reality Capture
RECONSTRUCTION -> TOOLS -> Simplify Tool -> Simplify Tool at the bottom left -> Type – Relative -> Target triangle percentage – 1 -> Click simplify !

Time taken for simplify 3.243 seconds

Agisoft Metashape
Tools at the top -> Mesh -> Decimate Mesh -> Targer face count : 100,000 -> OK

Time taken for decimate mesh 16.691 seconds

5. Texture Procedure,Time

Reality Capture
RECONSTRUCTION -> Click Texture !

Time taken for texturing 386.470 seconds

Agisoft Metashape

Workflow -> Click Build Texture !

Texture type : Diffuse map, Source data : Images, Mapping mode : Generic, Blending mode : Mosaic(default), Texture size/count : 4096 x 4

6. Texture editing with A.eyes Step 1

Now it’s time to edit the texture and complete modeling!

Before the editing Reality Capture and Agisoft Metashape with A.eyes, there was a clear difference.

After editing with A.eyes, both became clean scans.

8. Reality Capture VS Agisoft Metashape
Final verification-measurement of actual data and scan data

I measured the accuracy of the scan data even after editing with A.eyes.

I used a tape measure to measure the height of the monument. Its height is 163.3 cm

The height measured with the final Reality Capture and Agisoft Metashape scan data
edited with A.eyes is 163.3cm

Accurate scan data without errors !!!
